The legendary Osunlade, rumored to have retired from the international DJ scene after ZoukOut 2007, will be back tearing up the decks at Velvet Underground on 4 July, Saturday, with his percussive tribal house. Originally born in Missouri, USA, Osunlade is currently based in Greece, after stints in New York, California and Canada. Interestingly, Osunlade is actually an ordained priest in the Yorùbá religion of Ifá, a tribal religion based in Africa. Perhaps because of his faith, Osunlade's brand of house music reflects a deep spiritual root in Yoruba traditions, which also inspired the name of his own record label, Yoruba Records. For aficionados of the deep and soulful sound, be prepared for the dancefloor to morph into a cross between the magical Greek island of Santorini (where Osunlade is based), and the mysterious and wild jungles of Africa, all accompanied by the lush and jazzy nu-soul tempo that he unleashes from the decks.
